Happy New Year y’all. It’s finally the new year and we are once again preparing for another trip around the sun. It’s been a little longer than I would have liked between blog posts but with the holidays and tournaments my life can get pretty hectic. Now obviously golf is an individual sport while you are actually playing, but not many people know what goes on behind the scenes. Now this isn’t just related to golf, this one goes out to everyone that does behind the scenes work to help the ones they love get to where they need to be. Today I will be talking about the people behind the curtain that do all the heavy lifting, the late nights and long hours to get me where I need to be. This one goes out to my team, Team Mike.

We seldomly fail to recognize all that certain people in our life do for us. For me, those people are my parents. From the day I was born till right now at 23 years old, my parents never stopped giving me everything I needed to become the successful man I am today. My mom sacrificed her career to stay home with my brother and me while we were young. She took teaching jobs that allowed her to have off in the summer and was able to take us to and from school every day. She instilled values in my brother and me that we would carry into the future; she blessed us everyday with prayers and positive energy and reminded us that we were always loved. My dad throughout my whole childhood traveled to New York City every day to work, spent early mornings and even longer nights in the office. He always managed to make it home for dinner and never missed a basketball game, golf tournament, swim meet, baseball game or piano recital just to name a few. As my brother and I grew up, my parents began to take different work rolls. My mom left the teaching position at the middle school I attended and began to pursue  a different teaching career. My dad took a position close to home so he could make sure my brother and I could get everywhere we needed to be. As I got older, I began to realize all the sacrifices my parents were making for my brother and me.  They gave us the world and never asked for a thank you. While many think that it’s a parent’s job to do all that, you are right— it is a parent’s job to love their child unconditionally. However, what my parents have done and continue to do  goes far beyond that and much deeper.

As my dreams began to grow and blossom my team needed to grow. Coaches, friends, family have all joined in the mission to get me to the PGA Tour. Now anybody that knows me, I hate taking help from people. I take a lot of pride in doing things myself, but very recently I realized that you can’t. Anything worth while cannot be attainted without help from anybody who’s willing to give it. I want to thank every single person that has given money, followed along through my journey, pushed me to never lose sight of my dreams, and never gave up on me even when I gave up on myself. My incredible parents, my brother, my girlfriend Gabby and her amazing family and everyone in between. You are the ones who did the heavy lifting and never asked for anything in return. There’s no Team Mike without all of you. Here’s to a new year of confidence, passion, happiness, love, and dream chasing. Much Love, Team Mike.
